I am a student who graduated with a high 2.1 in Biology from the University of Kent in July of 2020. I am looking to become an online tutor and help students in areas they are struggling with and help improve their understanding of certain topics. I am passionate about science and am always looking to learn more despite having gradated, by regularly reading recent research papers and keeping up-to-date with new scientific findings. In addition, I am keen to share this knowledge and methods of learning from my experience with students. Especially with the current pandemic and school closures, I am even more motivated to help those that are unable to learn from school to ensure they are not missing out on valuable education.
At my time at university, I was a peer mentor for first year students studying Biology, Biochemistry or Bioengineering, where I would guide them with topics they have concerns with and how best to achieve the highest grades in their essays and lab reports. Furthermore, towards the end of the year, I would give the students top tips for exams, such as how to plan and structure essays to ensure all the information is clear and concise. As well as giving exam revision tips to help memorise a lot of complex information more efficiently. I found this to be an incredibly rewarding experience as I saw how drastically the students’ grades changed from when I first started mentoring them to the end of the academic year.
I also tutored GCSE science students when I was in sixth form. I was able to transform a student who was receiving Ds and Es to receiving Cs and Bs, which made me eager to continue mentoring/tutoring in the future.
